Axel Javier Sulzbacher - Photojournalist
Born in 1992 in Hanover to a Mexican mother from Michoacán and a German father, he grew up immersed in diverse cultural influences. After completing high school, he pursued photojournalism and documentary photography at the Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts, starting his studies in 2014.
His photographic journey has been shaped by extended stays abroad, including in Ukraine, Pakistan, and Mexico, with a thematic focus on social and ecological areas of conflict. His work draws attention to individuals whose lives are marked by poverty, violence, and corruption while simultaneously highlighting the personal and collective strategies they use to cope, survive, and resist.
Since 2018, he has undertaken several photojournalistic projects with intensive research in Michoacán, Mexico. His work has been published in renowned magazines such as Stern, Zenith, Washington Post, and Geo. Throughout his career, he has been featured in numerous exhibitions:

In between major projects, he has consistently worked on smaller personal endeavors, some of which have been published in various magazines and newspapers.
